AUSTIN – The Texas Bar College congratulates West Mermis PLLC attorney Joshua Mermis on his membership as a Fellow in the College of the State Bar of Texas. The Texas Bar College is an honorary society of lawyers who are among the best trained attorneys in Texas, having completed at least double the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) required by the State Bar of Texas.
Mr. Mermis’ practice focuses on construction, employment, oil and gas, and product liability litigation.
He has represented general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, manufacturers, developers and owners on substantial construction projects, including condominium high-rises, master-planned residential communities, single-family homes, public buildings and commercial projects. His experience includes the prosecution and defense of a variety of construction-related issues before state and federal courts, including matters related to mechanic’s liens; performance and payment bonds; differing site conditions; water rights; breach of contract; construction-defect claims; and termination of contracts.
Mr. Mermis has also represented companies and individuals in the full range of issues related to the employment relationship and has represented clients in cases involving sex, race, age, national origin and disability discrimination claims, as well as wage and hour, non-compete, tort and retaliation matters.
Mr. Mermis earned his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law and is the immediate past chairman of the Houston Bar Association’s Construction Law section. He is a frequent speaker and author on a variety of topics concerning the construction and energy industries.
